Yesterday you brought me a coffee to get me through my sluggish afternoon.  As I let out a sigh of gratitude, Max asked, "Is this going to be on your 'I Dig You' blog"?  Your boys notice you doing sweet things for me all the time and I can't wait to see how this transfers to their own married lives some day.

Thanks for being an amazing example of how a man should treat a woman.

I had a great weekend with you.

You make me laugh in little ways all day long.

Please never stop telling that same joke every time we are in the Ikea elevator.  You can instantly tell what a person is like by their response.  I like the gigglers better than the stare-ahead-and-ignorers.

I love you!

P.S.  Isn't it so weird that we will have a seven year old in two days?

Yesterday you turned in your last big assignment for your program and we let out a huge sigh of relief.

Did you know that you are very smart?

I am pretty sure it's always been that way.

There is nothing like cleaning up your child's puke side-by-side at two am to really bond a couple.

Life is not always easy, but somehow even vomit bowls, antibacterial wipes, and a warm bath to soothe a traumatized soul create memories of us as a family functioning together.

Caden may have cried out, "This is the most horrible night in my entire life!", but I think he'll remember his mommy and daddy working as a team to make him feel better.

You fix my bras when the dryer jacks them up.

You twist open the cap of my bottled root beer so my hand won't get hurt.

You are there, straightening the other side when I put fresh sheets on our bed.

I am so glad you are my roommate.

Usually Mr. Mailman is such a jerk to us, delivering bills and lame ads.  But not today!  He sent us some mailman love by bringing us this book:

I will probably have to take the cover off this because although it's funny, it's just gross to look at again and again.

and this movie from Netflix!

Now that you finished up that last giant assignment we might even have some time to dive into these together.  Doesn't that sound amazing?

Love you and love doing life with you!

Today I had the stomach flu.  I snuggled in bed all day, trying to get the queasies out while you:

- Got the boys ready for school and delivered them.
- Took Milo on a round of disc golf.
-Retrieved the boys from school.
- Went on a field trip to Lowe's and got three happy boys their very own real tools.
- Let the older two join in on another round of disc golf.
- Helped the boys build birdhouses in the garage.
- Made sure I was okay before you headed out for class for the night.

I love that you made the most of this day. You took care of my guys in the very best way.

We are all so lucky to have you.

We share
closet space,
household chores,
the last servings of ice cream,
stories about our day,
the computer,
funny Kurtz boy antics,
the covers at night.

We share everything, including our birthday.  Even as an adult, sharing isn't always easy, but this deal we have worked out is so great that I think I will keep it for the rest of my life.

Happy Birthday, Jeffrey Kurtz!

Our breakfast tag-team made this morning rock.  I really love being in the kitchen with you.

Thursday, May 19, 2011

Three reasons we know you have become a real teacher:

1. You have perfected your Harry Potter read aloud voice.

2.  You stayed up late on a sick day correcting tests.

3.  This morning when I asked you to pour the water for coffee before the kettle started whistling you told me, "Whoa, you got all pre-cog on that".

So proud of you, Mr. Kurtz!

10 points for asking me how my back was doing today.
10,000 bonus points for asking while that nasty stomach bug had you barfing like mad.

Although you look really cute as a sick guy, I hope you feel better soon.

Yesterday I got the most giant compliment from our boys..."You are being even more fun than Daddy!"

I have some crazy competition with you in the fun department, so I kept at making the pack n play a wild rollercoaster.  And that's when something in my lower back brought the ride to a screeching halt.

Thank you for being so much fun.

Thank you for taking care of me today when that tweaked muscle had all the fun sucked out of me.

You are the guy I turn to when I have one mother of a splinter in my Middle Man.

I love that I am married to Dr. J!

Sunday, May 15, 2011

Today was the big graduation day.  But not really.  You still have four weeks to go and enough work to keep our family busy.  So proud of you for taking down that to do list right now on your actual GRADUATION DAY!  But I'm mostly proud that you went to the GSE looking like this, because that place might have needed some funk tonight. I love you more than that pretty red folder they gave you!

Without you around things get a little crazy.  Eating out of the tub of ice cream crazy.  Painting my nails crazy.  So excited to spend a night at the beach with you tonight.  Last one to jump on the bed is a rotten dinosaur egg.

Tonight Max his first musical program of his elementary career.  I am so excited to see him up on stage with his tribe of buddies.  I love picturing you as a little guy in your school's shows.  You were the cutest, smartest kid and I love that our own replicate that.

Don't you think we would have been the best of friends at age six had we been neighbors?

Wednesday, May 11, 2011

It's a rare thing these days when you come straight home from teaching and yesterday was one of those.  It was great.  But then it was super extra great when you brought me one of these.  I loved it so much that it made me do mom cartwheels on our lawn!

"We are all a little weird and life's a little weird, and when we find someone whose weirdness is compatible with ours, we join up with them and fall in mutual weirdness and call it love."

You have some of the most creative, inventive ideas known to man.  Way to turn boring research projects into something original and cool.  So glad I didn't marry some boring, run-of-the-mill dude.

Sunday, May 8, 2011

Here are three things we do better together than apart:

1. Retrieve helium balloons from the garage ceiling.
2. Clap out camp songs.
3. Raise three incredible boys.

Thank you for making me feel so loved and special this Mother's Day!!

I love this picture of Caden showing you his book he wrote and illustrated.  Our boys love making you proud.  Thank you for focusing in on what is important.  I feel so sad for the little guys out there who don't have daddy's who stop and listen.  I can see the confidence starting to burst out of Caden's cheeks and I just know he will be okay with all the tough stuff his future might hold.

Jeff, This marriage thing takes loads of grace and forgiveness to really work at all.  Thanks for giving those both so willingly.  Sometimes, in this season especially, it is difficult to do things the right way.  But we will keep trying, and once in awhile failing, and starting all over again.

May the Fourth Be With You!

You have passed along your giant collection of Star Wars characters to your boys.

I have never seen an entire Star Wars movie.

It reminded me of my friend Becca's blog that you should see, because you and I get what she is talking about:

"Two broken people that are better together."

Monday, May 2, 2011

Today I took time to explain this blog to our boys.  I want them to always know that I love you more than any other person on this planet.  (I haven't really checked out the other planets yet, so I can't be sure about where you stand there.)  We went back to past entries so I could show them some of the things I love about you.

They chimed in as guest "I Dig You" bloggers today...

Caden: You are the nicest boy around.
Milo: Nu-fing.  (Which you know actually means everything.)
Max: I like it when you play little legos with me.

Wait patiently for the Lord.
      Be brave and courageous.
Yes, wait patiently for the Lord.
Psalm 27:14

And...I think your ear is really cute.
